Yes, ASK is going to happen this fall! It won’t look exactly the same, at least as we start – but then again nothing is looking exactly the same. Here’s what we are planning for now.
We will hold ASK Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This allows us to thoroughly clean on Monday between church activities and ASK, and again on Fridays. This will keep both the kids and the members of Community Baptist safer.
The first day of ASK will be Tuesday, September 29.
The hours will be 3:15-5:30 pm. Students in grades 4-8 are welcome to attend any of these days. We will be ALL OUTDOORS as long as the weather allows. I am purchasing some pop-up awnings with some of our grant money, so we will have shade as well as shelter from light rain. We’ll have all of our outdoor games available (gagaball with limited numbers in the pit at a time) and bring out rotating other games and activities that we can do under the tents. I hope we will have a series of 4 outdoor WMSI science sessions as well.
We are NOT allowed to have kids cook with us for now, due to COVID protocols. We WILL still provide a healthy and delicious snack. Cathy MacInnins will be preparing snacks and serving them individually – no buffet style, no shared utensils, etc. Feasts are on hold until further notice. We are hoping that once we can start cooking with kids again, we will do some kind of take-home feasts. We’ll be eating outside as the weather allows. When we need to move indoors, we will have several tables spread out in the big room with no more than four kids per table, to allow for social distancing.
I know that schedules will be complicated this year. The hybrid model Whitefield is using puts some ASK kids in school on Tuesdays and some on Thursdays. Last I heard (Aug. 31), the bus company and school had not announced details about transportation so I don’t know if kids will even be able to come by bus. And with Wednesday being a flex day, I don’t know if you would want your kids to come to ASK on that day or not.
PLEASE call, email or text me with your family’s plans for ASK this year. My email is gsvigne@gmail.com. My cell phone is 802-349-9557. It is very important to our planning that you let us know which days your child will attend, and what method of transportation they will be using for arrival and for pick-up.
Please also fill out the registration forms that I sent by mail, and either mail them, bring them, or have your child bring them the first day he or she comes to ASK. Also please spread the word to friends and neighbors that ASK is available, and have them contact either me (837-7083) or the church (837-2469) if they would like to register.
My deep hope is that COVID will stay away from the North Country, and that we will be able to ease back into a more regular format, for school and for ASK. But even with the restrictions we have had to put in place, I’m looking forward to spending time with your kids!
Yours,
Susan Vigne
